I hope you all had a great start to the year. Unfortunately our year had a very sad start - we lost a very good and dear friend on new years eve.
His name was Tacoma aka "the Bog" (it's a long story...) and he would have been 13 this month. He had been declining over the last year or so but still plodding along and then on Sun night he just kind of quit on us and Monday morning when we went to check on him we knew we had to take him to the vet and we also knew he wouldn't be coming home again. It was very sad (great understatement!) so we told the girls what was going to happen so that they had the opportunity to say goodbye. These 2 girls have had a lot of death in their young lives. In the past 3 years they have lost 2 grandfather's, a great grandmother and 3 beloved pets. Way too much death for people so young. And my personal anguish is doubled for me because I have to watch them grieve and there is nothing I can do to take their pain away.
Tacoma had a best buddy his whole life - Noah
and so we grieve for Noah as well and we think we need to find him a new buddy very soon. We have been scouring Wikipedia for various dog breeds, and the papers and pet stores to see what's available. But it's not an easy task to replace a friend.

I'm so sorry about your dog! I can only imagine how hard it is on your kids.
