My Oma

I made a flip book of my family from my Oma's (grandmother in Dutch) birthday last year. I wasn't there of course and a few of my other cousins also live overseas but mostly the whole family on my mum's side was there. I loved this photo of my Oma because you get too see her looking more like the Oma I knew and remembered before her stroke and dementia took a hold.
She passed away this morning and though we all knew it was coming you still are always stunned when you find out. It really was a blessing to her and my mum's family - the last few weeks/months she has been going down hill and wasn't really there much anymore. The strain of taking care of her was taking it's toll on my aunt and I think we are all now much more at peace because we know she is no longer in pain and is with my Opa who passed away about 20 years ago. Still it's a very sad day - she was the last of my grandparents alive so it's the passing of an era. I was thinking we would get to see her one last time when we went home this summer. The funeral is on Monday and of course we won't be there but if you don't see me here over the next few days you'll understand.

Goodbye Oma - I love you!
